
Matt is an award-winning professional composer, arranger, performer, and educator who has worked with Grammy, Emmy, and Tony Award winners from around the country.
In 2010, Matt founded www.Acappella-Songs.com, a company providing original contemporary a cappella arrangements. Since being founded, his a cappella arrangements have been performed by hundreds of groups in all 50 states and in 31 countries spanning six continents. Recent clients include Harvard University, Yale University, Brown University, Stanford University, Cornell University, Duke University, University of Cambridge, the prestigious London Contemporary Voices, and The AcoUsiKats (NBC's The Sing Off season four).
Matt currently works full-time at William Peace University in Raleigh, NC and part-time at North Carolina State University. His degrees include a B.A in Theory and Composition, a M.A in Music, and a M.F.A in Music Composition. Prior to teaching at WPU, Matt served as full-time faculty at Campbellsville University and part-time faculty at Lindsey Wilson College. Matt has also worked with University of Kentucky, Centre College, and Bellarmine University.
Matt has ranked as a finalist/semi-finalist seven times in international music competitions (including multiple Top 10 placements). Recent scoring credits include award-winning documentaries previously streamed on NETFLIX and HULU, national and international television shows, award-winning films, national campaign pitches, award-winning video game prototypes, and NYC celebrity events. He has commercially released music with production companies who have serviced HBO, VH1, Warner Bros, Walt Disney Studios, Pixar, and Universal Pictures.
Matt has worked on projects that have received praise from The New York Times, The Huffington Post, Radio Disney, Fox & Friends, The Advocate, Variety, and MSN News. As a private instructor and coach, Matt has worked with clients who have performed on Broadway, in film and television, and who have won multiple national awards and competitions. He has also worked with singers previously seen on FOX’s American Idol and NBC’s The Sing-Off.
Matt is very popular as a judge. He currently serves as a judge for Varsity Vocals International Championship of A Cappella. Since 2015, He has been a current judge for the Marvin Hamlisch International Film Score Competition (whose final round judges included Academy Award-winning composers). In 2013, Matt was a Miss America qualifying competition judge who helped choose Miss Louisville who went on to become Miss Kentucky and a top 15 Finalist in the 2014 Miss America Pageant).
Matt’s professional memberships include Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI- previously ASCAP), National Association of Composers USA (NACUSA), A cappella Education Association (AEA), Contemporary A Cappella Society (CASA), Pi Kappa Lambda, and Alpha Psi Omega.
His academic research presentations include the 2010 MathFest National Conference (Musical Mathematics), the 2014 International Arts in Society Conference in Rome, Italy (Interdisciplinary Arts Technology), the 2016 International Journal of Arts and Sciences Conference at Harvard University (Drama Therapy in Criminal Rehabilitation), the 2017 NCCC Fine Arts Conference, and the 2017 European IJAS Conference in Vienna, Austria (Drama Therapy with the Homeless). He has toured with students through 25+ states and have traveled internationally through Canada, Ireland, England, Austria, Czech Republic, Turkey, Hungary, Slovakia, the Bahamas, France, Spain, Italy, Monaco, and the Netherlands; upcoming destinations will include Russia, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, Denmark, Sweden, Estonia, and Ecuador.
Besides his work, Matthew is incredibly active with multiple local and national charitable organizations that work to raise awareness and funding for various issues, include arts education, teenage bullying, domestic violence, supplies for soldiers overseas, child poverty overseas, and clothing for the homeless. He has been a Vice President and board member of national and international non-profit organizations, and has won multiple awards and honors for his work with charitable organizations.
